How to prepare for COVID-19 in the IT world

A lot has been going on lately in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. We at Oraman, have been getting many questions related to connectivity to the work place from home. At this point in time we are still able to travel freely from our homes to work, but day by day this can change. Please see the following quick advise on how to technically prepare yourself for the foreseeable future.

Setup a Office Environment at Home

If not already done, take the time now to set aside some space in your home for your office. You will want the area to be (if possible) in a quiet, secluded area away from distractions. You will need a workstation, preferably with dual monitors, keyboard and mouse. If you do not have a home computer, take the time now to speak to management in your business to procure a company laptop to be used in case our situation changes in BC and are required to work from home.


Tools Required to Connect to Your Data

All our customers have full capabilities built in to work remotely:

  • Email: Your email can be accessed from any web browser by going to (outlook.office.com) Enter in your username: emailaddress@domain.com/ca and your password

  • Documents/Desktop: All your documents and desktop files/folders can be accessed by going to OneDrive online (onedrive.live.com). Enter in your username: emailaddress@domain.com/ca and your password

  • Server drives and applications can be accessed either by MAC OS or Windows by connecting to your companies RD Gateway server

  • Setup phone forwarding from your office extension to your home phone number or cell phone

  • Utilize Teams! Remember those annoying pop-ups that ask to log in? Well now it the time to use teams. You can utilize for chat or audio/video calls and also host virtual meetings. No need to be in physical proximity of people, utilize the technology you possess
